Hi Erika – I apologize for this – it turns out that you’re right and I was wrong! When you invite someone to contribute to your board, you don’t have any way of deleting (or even editing) that person’s pins. I think this is a pretty significant design flaw that I hope Pinterest will fix in the future. Sorry for the confusion on this “moderation” issue – but I appreciate you bringing it up so I can stand publicly corrected!
WHY: Not only does this help you get found and gives Pinterest a better idea of what you’re all about so they can recommend your account and your boards to other people, but strangers who happen to come across your account don’t have to spend hours determining what you pin about and if they should follow you. So you improve your chances of being found by the right people.
Users will never even see your image if you don’t have the right keywords and copy to tell them (and the Pinterest algorithm) what you have in store. Pin descriptions, board descriptions, profile descriptions, and board titles should all creatively include keywords for that very reason—but avoid writing copy that looks and feels like low-effort keyword stuffing.

I share Andrew’s perspective, but I would phrase it differently — be relevant! I don’t have time to read all your posts re Pinterest. ….as you brushed off the person who asked about this. However…..I have a strong aversion to people not being informed clearly of the need to respect copyright. Especially since you have made it clear, and I know others are already using their boards commercially to make money from technically stolen prints.Pinterest has yet to have a TOC and system that ensures copyright is protected. A note on ad groups. Your ad group is where you set your daily budget and all your targeting. It can be very tempting to break out your targeting into dozens of ad groups for easy analysis. If you have time for that, by all means, go ahead, but be aware that if your ad groups are below about $5/day, it’s going to take a long time to get a clear picture of what is working and what isn’t. After all, if you bid $.25, and your daily budget is $1, how long will it take before you know if those clicks are converting at a decent rate?

Pinterest allows you to target Promoted Pin Ad Groups to your own audiences. These warm audiences tend to convert to website visits, sales, and email signups at a higher rate than do strangers (cold audiences). In fact, some (including ME) have seen click-through rates 3X when using visitor targeting. They’re very easy to set up at Ads > Audiences.
Tip! It’s a good idea to follow popular boards because they are relevant to your industry and business as opposed to “just because” they are the most popular. If your business has literally nothing to do with wedding fashion, you can do yourself a favor and follow the boards that have a following closer to yours. Those are the people you want to connect with anyway.
No one likes to follow or connect with you if you have an incomplete profile or empty board. Some marketers only create one or two pins and do not login regularly enough. As a result, this will affect the marketing plan of your brand. So, if you don’t have enough content to pin on board regularly, you can use a secret board and keep pinning to it. When you have enough pins you can share them one by one according to your requirements.
Include CTAs in your visual. The visual you use in the promoted pin should focus on catching the user's attention in a feed full of other appealing pins. Including direct CTAs in your visual will not just take away the visual appeal from your pin, but also get your ad disapproved. Make use of "soft" CTAs (like "Here's how to write a compelling blog post") when promoting a checklist you'll be redirecting them to.

Great Post, I’m a 17 year old who has recently started blogging and I’m trying to get traffic through pinterest but I’ve been finding it really hard to get on group boards. A few words of warnings for hashtags addressed in the article: Hashtags are clickable on Pinterest, so they can take users away from your content, just because you use a hashtag doesn’t mean Pinterest will index it so use keywords instead for that purpose, and there’s evidence that suggests that they might reduce the value of your pin in search results if you use too many hashtags, so only use one or two per pin, if any.
One trick is to use various quotes from your most recent blog post or testimonials about your recent product and link to the website page many different times. You can also Pin the same Pin to different boards. For example, if you write a blog post about buying the best homeowners insurance, that can go on a board that only holds your blog posts, it can also go on a board that talks about financial planning and a board that talks about homeownership.

Pinterest does not offer the option to automatically sort boards alphabetically. There are unofficial browser extensions that may be able to alphabetise boards; however, these extensions are not endorsed by Pinterest and should be used with caution. Alternatively, you can manually organise your boards alphabetically by dragging and dropping them into the desired order.

Hey Liz – did you change the name of that board recently? Sometimes when you do that, it causes problems. If that’s the case, you can try to change the name of the board back to its original name. Weird stuff happens sometimes because when you change the name of the board, the URL of that particular board changes, too, and I think sometimes the Pinterest system gets confused.
Rand Fiskin from MOZ is predicting that Pinterest advertising will be a juggernaut in the upcoming 2015 year for social media advertising. He’s predicting that advertising spending on the social media site will reach $50 million dollars.  And I predict that the amount of advertising dollars on Pinterest will continue to grow as well. I find that one mistake people often make is to leave out keywords on their boards. Board names are searchable (though significantly less than actual pins). It’s vital to choose board names with a strong SEO. For instance, ‘yummmy’ is not a good board name. It has no searchable context. Monetization: Currently, Pinterest is not a very successful business. Unlike Facebook, they are not reaping billions each year. I am not entirely sure you should lay all your eggs in the Pinterest basket anymore. Try to diversify (SEO or be an early discover for a new medium). One of the things I hear over and over again from Pinterest users–individuals and businesses–is that we don’t want Pinterest turning into another sales pitch ghetto as users plug their MLM products or Etsy sites or corporate product lines. The primary reason that Pinterest is so successful is its organic and cooperative nature. There are, as you listed, many ways (at least 54 it would seem) to promote a business or brand without resorting to carnival shilling and Web 1.0 scorched earth tactics.
