Similar to other social networks, Pinterest contains a plethora of images and videos. Not only do you want to ensure you’re posting images and videos that will help you promote your brand and market your products/ services, but you’ll also want to ensure they stand out against all of the others on the platform. Otherwise, why would a user choose to follow you over your competition?
Start Pinterest group Boards. Besides seeking membership in a popular Pinterest group Board, you might also seek to start one and invite your customers. This can help you to establish social proof, thought leadership, or perform customer research. A social proof Board could be created to invite people to show off how they use your product. A customer research Board can be used to invite customers to provide input on future or current products.

For me, it’s more budget friendly when I use Tailwind to pin to my group boards. With Tailwind I pin around 50-100 a day. I only pay $9.99 a month for unlimited pins. With Board Booster, I’d have to pay something like $84/month! So with Board Booster, I only pin 45 pins a day which is only $10/month. It’s just more cost effective for me. It may not be for you. Also, I would change that ratio to more pins of YOUR blog and less of other ones. As for follower growth, I don’t suspect a scheduling tool would help; getting more on group boards yes, making your blog Pinterest friendly and your pins Pin friendly.

Many people have the misconception that Pinterest is this happy ‘soft’ social media site for DIY moms and brides, where everything is always all perfect and dandy. While this assumption isn’t necessarily wrong, Pinterest often flies under the radar as a practical marketing tool, to the detriment of those who fail to invest time in a Pinterest marketing strategy.

The pin/save button appears directly on your website’s product pages, making it easy for browsers to pin (and share) a link to their own Boards. 5x more easy to be precise. Immediately you’re making it simple for potential customers to engage with you and you’re gaining knowledge of who has pinned content from your website; providing you with an opportunity to engage right back.
Include relevant keywords in your targeting options. Pinterest allows you to add up to 150 keywords in a promoted pin, but most marketers make the mistake of trying to add as many as possible. This results in low click-throughs and conversions. Try to have a focused and targeted approach with Pinterest keywords. This isn't Google Adwords, so you need to think about how your target customer uses Pinterest every day and target those keywords. The keywords chosen shouldn’t only be focused on targeting users, but should also maintain context with what’s offered in the pin and the web page they’re redirected to.
Monetization: Currently, Pinterest is not a very successful business. Unlike Facebook, they are not reaping billions each year. At one point they need to cash in and this will probably lead to less traffic to your website. Why is this important? I am not entirely sure you should lay all your eggs in the Pinterest basket anymore. Try to diversify (SEO or be an early discover for a new medium). It’s just a hunch, but traffic potential from Pinterest might just be about to see its peak.
The only reason why you might want to delete underperforming pins is a totally different one. Often new followers will come and check out your boards. They will repin what they liked. So, it is in your best interest to have beautiful boards inviting visitors to repin. When some content fails to lift off, it’s a good sign visitors will skip it as well.
Your anchor board is a board where you only pin your own content and they all lead people to your blog posts, website or landing pages. (I suggest creating this even if you haven’t created your own pins to go in it yet. We will work on that in the next step.) You should name it something obvious such as “Best of BLOG NAME” so people know that you pin your own content in there.
Click on Analytics from the Pinterest Ads Manager dashboard to measure the performance of your campaign. You’ll first be presented with an overview of all campaigns and their key metrics, including total clicks or impressions; engagement rate or CTR; average eCPM (earned and non-earned cost-per impression) and eCPC (effective cost-per click); and total spend. Click on a specific campaign to drill down into its performance details.
Just like other platforms, Pinterest wants you consistently using the platform! As a Pinterest marketer, avoid inconsistency and plopping a bunch of pins on the platform once a week or so. Get into a regular habit of pinning when your audience is using the platform. Followers on Pinterest matter because it allows Pinterest to monitor your content. If your followers see your content and they like it, Pinterest will know which of your pins to show more.  But if your followers don’t engage with your content, for example spam accounts, then Pinterest thinks the content isn’t that good and they will not push it. So it doesn’t matter if you have 1 follower or 100,000 followers, you want them to be liking your stuff.  
High quality is a must, as is size. Vertical Pins (2:30 – 600px x 900px) work well because they take up more space, making them stand out. Contrast these with square images (600px x 600px) to make your content eye-catching on the discovery feed. Be sure that your images (and website for that matter) are mobile-friendly: over 85% of searches are in the App.
I’ve joined Pinterest and hooked it up to my business site. So far I haven’t really noticed any great increase in my site’s traffic due to Pinterest. But I agree…Pinterest is becoming huge and I think finally surpassed LinkedIn as one of the top three. Might as well play along! 🙂 Good tips though…I certainly started looking through my pins to see if and where I could I apply some of your advice.
Then I edit the picture in Adobe Photoshop. This IS important. Your original image might not be suited for Pinterest as it does not get your idea across. I often extend the sky (to have some good background) or enlargen certain landmarks or combine multiple images into one. Say you got a whale on the one picture and a boat on the other, but the pin is about whale watching, so do cheat a little.

Then, I’m about to help you. Instead of rehearsing all the old news (like updating your profile pic and getting a business account. duh!) I tried to focus on very actionable items. Unique techniques I use every day that helped me drive a constant 5,000 visitors to my site. each. day. The information is based on official interviews and quite a couple of e-mail conversations with Pinterest (so no urban myths, sorry!), but also empirical evidence from stuff that worked out for me.
I think the underlying major issue here is that NO ONE marketing tactic works. If it did, we’d all stick to enhancing our websites to be the best they could be. But no – blogs became popular because you could engage the consumer in a “conversation” via comments and they seem to lure more followers than a static website does. And then FB and Twitter and others, and now Pinterest. No one method seems perfect so business owners are all over the place trying every thing they can. Kind of makes you crazy…Now Pinterest is hot but as someone posted above, I, too, cannot get the search to work. I have searched on terms I know are on my own board names or pin descriptions and nothing comes up. It seems you have to know someone is on Pinterest and then begin following them… so I don’t know if a business can acquire new followers by someone generically searching on their subject matter if the search engine is so weird. But that brings me back to the Pinterest terms which say “no commercial use”!
Pinterest marketing is for those that want to increase their brand or company awareness, get more traffic to a company website or increase overall revenue. If any of these is a goal, you should consider using Pinterest as part of your marketing. There are surprising industries that are doing incredibly well on Pinterest like financial advisors, banks, attorneys and tax advisors.
Unlike Facebook and Instagram, both heavily focused on the social interaction between the users, Pinterest is a personal and private discovery platform.  It’s all about the user. You’re allowed to dream about personal topics (and even things you DON’T want to share) like trying to get pregnant or new fitness goals, because you can create a secret board and pin to it.
Keywords are the words that your ideal audience would use to look for what your business does on Pinterest. In order to be as visible as possible, you want to make sure that your pins are discovered easily, which is where careful keyword choices can be helpful. The best way to find the right keywords for your business on Pinterest is to actually perform Pinterest searches on your own to see what comes up on Pinterest.

Agreed that it is fuzzy. But if their terms say “no commercial use” and some suggestions state to have a board devoted to your coupons, your URLs, your classes, etc., how is that not violating their terms? I did write directly to Pinterest with my questions asking for clarification and have not rec’d a response yet. If they are ok with this fuzzy use, I’ll be jumping on board… but for now I am leery. Especially because as an artist myself and as a website designer working with artists who are especially sensitive about copyright issues, one would never take another artist’s image and post it on their business website or blog, or publish it on their printed brochure, w/out the artist’s permission. if a business sets up a Pinterest series of boards and utilizes other’s pics to generate interest in their business… that opens up a huge can of worms. Example – a landscape design firm starts a business board and pins other people’s images of gardens, stone walkways, etc., and suddenly business picks up because interested customers just found their Pinned boards interesting. They didn’t pay for those images or obtain permission to use them – free stock photography! It is VERY fuzzy!

Pinterest is a highly reputable business, and use of their website is unlikely to give you a virus. However, it is possible to click on pins that lead to sites hosting malicious content, such as viruses or malware. Pinterest does not monitor the integrity of linked websites, so always be careful when leaving the main site. When using browser extensions to increase the site’s functionality, only download and install extensions from sites you trust.
Me again- going through the list now and writing some things down to keep in mind for later and making changes as I go along- care to elaborate a bit more on #44 – “Do you have a number of different ideal client personas? Create a separate board to represent each client persona, then use those boards during your sales cycle and embed them into your website pages so people are clear about the kinds of clients you’re trying to attract.”
