I think some people on Pinterest are upset about the idea of marketers coming in a “ruining” Pinterest. I have gotten some flack about this, as well. I think people responded the same way when businesses moved into the Facebook space, too. At any rate, you didn’t do anything wrong! And if people follow the first rule of Copyblogger, no “ruining” of anything will occur!
Since they recognized that college students were the perfect demographic to target, they started to push traffic to their website, focusing on dorm-friendly furnishings and accessories as well as design ideas for small spaces. They used Promoted Pins and keywords like “dorm ideas” and “dorm room organization” to push traffic in the right direction.
It is more effective to Pin multiple times a day than to Pin all at once. This is because the more consistently you Pin, the more Pinterest’s Smart Feed will show your pins. Your goal is to Pin five times per day. You can work up to this number by starting with two pins a day of your content and two repins. However, to be most effective you want to work up to pinning and repinning 10 times a day.
I’ve done some thinking this past week, and I really don’t have much of a Pinterest strategy 🙂  But I do think what has worked for me, and would be my best tip, is that almost all my pins are things I truly like and that fit in my niche of homemade and DIY projects.  People who choose to follow me on Pinterest know that they will find pins and more ideas on the same subjects that brought them to my blog.  And if they found me on Pinterest first and have then come over to my blog, they will again find lots of info on the same subject as the type of pins they found interesting. I think this gives some continuity to my brand and continues to give me an authentic voice on my subject.  
Pinterest makes it very clear that vertical aspect ratio is imperative when creating content for Pinterest audiences. Pins on Pinterest are recommended to be 2:3 — 600px wide x 900px high. These are the ideal dimensions so users can see the image in the best possible way. Vertical images also prove to be better for engagement because they take up more space in Pinterest’s kanban format, which takes up more real estate on users’ devices which is ideal for brands. Sure, we’ve just told you that Pinterest is a visual medium—but great visuals alone are not enough to create serious engagement. Make the most of the description field to tell viewers exactly what they will get if they click through to the linked content on your site. Make sure to include your most important keywords to help your Pins appear in search (but, of course, be sure to do this in a natural and helpful way rather than engaging in keyword stuffing).
Then, I’m about to help you. Instead of rehearsing all the old news (like updating your profile pic and getting a business account. duh!) I tried to focus on very actionable items. Unique techniques I use every day that helped me drive a constant 5,000 visitors to my site. each. day. The information is based on official interviews and quite a couple of e-mail conversations with Pinterest (so no urban myths, sorry!), but also empirical evidence from stuff that worked out for me.

Hi Elna, this was great info. I’m just starting out using Pinterest for a new blog. I’ve taken a few Pinterest courses that cover the Pinterest side of things, but one thing that I’m a bit confused about is the best placement of the Pinterest image inside my blog post. Some blogs have a featured image at the top with a Pinterest image at the bottom, some just have a huge Pinterest image at the top…so I’m uncertain what is the best thing to do!

This type of dedicated page is the best place for users to “land” after clicking your pin, and will significantly help convert prospects into leads because it’s free of distractions (e.g. header navigation, social icons, etc.).
Ads for financial products and services must clearly and prominently disclose all applicable terms and conditions as required by the local laws and regulations for any country or region your ad is targeting. Ads for consumer loans, for example, must disclose things like the APR, repayment period, fees and costs, penalties, and information about the lending institution.
